Backroads Whistler is Whistler's original summer adventure tour company. For the past 30 years, we’ve embraced and pioneered "eco-friendly tours” and have continued developing non-polluting, healthy recreational activities. Our mission is to make lasting memories for guests of Whistler that will long remember the time they paddled the River of Golden Dreams.
From May to September, things move quickly around here. Your mission will to be provide the highest standard of care to our guests.
Here’s some positions we have for this summer
These are our most versatile positions starting in the spring, helping us get ready.
It involves getting all the boats, trucks, buses, trailers, boats and gear up and running including guiding guests during our spring start up, assist with day-to-day operations. Come mid-summer you will be running our shuttles (you must have a class four license) from the end of the river and back to the beach, and then in the fall you will help to shut things down for the winter.
Shuttle Pilot; Class 4 Drivers
Shuttling guests, loading and unloading canoes, and kayaks, conducting rescues on the lake and river and helping our concession staff rent boats or guiding trips when you are not driving. Staff who have their Class 4 driver’s license (allows them to drive our busses) generally get more hours especially in the spring and fall as we do have to get our guests to and from our activities.
Waterfront operations; Beach/dock personnel
Delivering safety briefings, teaching paddling strokes, renting boats, operating assist vessel, and staging boats and gear.
Concession staff are our primary contact with guests. You will be taking bookings in person, via phone and internet. Presenting waivers, renting boats, teaching paddling strokes, communicating to guests what water conditions are like and what their paddling skills need to be to fun the river, cash handling, invoicing, scheduling guides, selling novelties, selling ice cream, liaison with suppliers and generally increasing your knowledge of how an adventure company works from the administration side of things.
Delivering safety briefings, teaching boat and bike use, safely guiding our guests throughout the waterways, cycling trails of Whistler, sharing with guests what’s going on in Whistler,
Sharing your wealth of knowledge of Whistler’s Flora and Fauna and the history of Whistler.
Many of our candidates come to us from Adventure Tourism or Hospitality Industry schools. These candidates are looking to gain work experience in our industry. They often come to us with the certifications needed to enter our operation. For those that do not we conduct skills courses which give you great hands on training and certifications to boot.
